n September 27, 2008 what has been described as the “deadliest and most ambitious attack in Yemen in years” (Harold Tribune) occurred when militants disguised as soldiers detonated two car bombs outside of the U.S. Embassy. Over recent years, Yemen has been subjected to several terrorists’ attacks by militants aligned with Al Queda. This attack was more brazen and bold than many, taking place during the holy month of Ramadan, a time when Muslims commit to daily fasting and abstaining from sin. On that tragic morning, at 9:15 a.m. gunmen fired rifles and rocket-propelled grenades at the checkpoint outside of the Embassy before detonating the two car bombs near the front gate.

Among those who perished in the attacks were six Yemen guards and four civilians. Sara Elbaneh, an 18 year old from Lackawanna, New York stood outside the U.S. Embassy with her husband, a native of Yemen when the raid occurred. She, too, perished as a result of the attacks. This month, Chap’s Expressions honors Sara Elbaneh and all those who lost their lives or a loved one as a result of a terrorist attack. One can never be prepared for the news of such a lost and Chap’s Expressions wants their survivors to know that although we will never know your pain, we know your promise.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalms 34:18). And we know that “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose” for them (Romans 8:28).
