February 2008 "In the Process of Being" S abbath, the pastor and I catered dinner for the Church. In passing I heard a member say, that while attending church, she continued to drink liquor and smoke, but she read and studied the Bible faithfully, until delivered from these addictions. To be in community with her, I shared that all of us are “in the process of being.” All of us have habits and beliefs we are struggling with, and praying for God’s deliverance. Some of these habits or beliefs could be people, places, things, systems, and assumptions. “In the process of being” is a progression that takes a lifetime with God. It’s a continuous development that involves many metamorphoses. These metamorphoses are transforming by the Lord’s goodness. The process takes us beyond the “individual self-feeling” and units us to the mercies of God over a life span. Why? It’s human nature to resist change. In the book “Healing Words”, Dr. Larry Dorsey states that “it is emotionally comforting to believe that our views about the workings of the world are correct. When evidence to the contrary confronts us, it is natural to resist it.” Our very sinful nature keeps us in the process of being. God, the Great I am, is our Finisher. People, place, things, systems, and assumptions are merely human practices and beliefs to be dispelled and broken.
