I

t is the goal of Chap’s Expressions to get the word out to about health and wellness programs that will inform, educate, and raise the awareness of our viewers. If you’re living in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area here are a few programs that have little or not cost.

Washington Adventist Hospital provides several FREE programs as part of its service to the community. Please call 301.891.5265:

• Empty Arms, Aching Hearts (baby loss) ~ a support group for those experiencing infant loss by pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth or death. Every (3rd) third Thursday of the month, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

• Hospitalization 101 and Prescription Drug Education Workshop ~ if you would like to know what to expect when being admitted in to the hospital or to learn what questions to ask your doctor about the medication being prescribed then this workshop is for you. First Church of Seventh-day Adventists ~ 4/12 4:30 -6:30 p.m.

• Grief Care Support ~ a mutual support group that meets six (6) consecutive weeks for those experiencing loss. The group provides a safe place to grieve and helpful tools for coping, processing and healing. There will be a group forming May 13-June 17, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

• Divorce Care Support ~ an 8-week support group for those healing from divorce. Each group begins with a DVD covering a pertinent topic, followed by group discussion. A group will be forming at the end of June.

• 25th Anniversary Celebration “Reflect, Rejoice, Renew: Celebrating 25 Years of promoting health and well-being for Black Women Thursday, June 19 – Saturday, June 21, 2008 for more information go to Black Women's Health Imperative.

• The HIV/AIDS Stakeholders of Prince George's County is co-sponsoring a theatrical stage play presented by Chronicles Of Truth Productions, Inc. of Cheverly, Maryland entitled "Love & Liaisons" written by Minister William Jones. This family-oriented play is dealing with the epidemic of HIV/AIDS affecting the African American Community to be held at the Suitland High School Annabelle Ferguson Auditorium in Forestville, Maryland at 6:00 PM on June 21, 2008 Admission is free but you will need a ticket, contact our website for tickets.

• April 19th is “Make a Decision Day” If you don’t have a Health Directive for yourself and family members this is great time to get one done. See our Back Talk section for more details.
